1. What you say to yourself really matters - if you tell yourself you can do it, you have a head start. If you tell yourself you can't do it, it will be like running through three feet of snow.
2. Do the hard stuff first - really. You will feel so good when it's over.
3. If you are procrastinating on something, quit beating yourself up. Ask yourself, why am I procrastinating? Probably because you don't want to do what ever it is. Do you need help? Do you need something else? If not, suck it up, jump in and get the task done.
4. Reading, writing and math are skills you will take with you for the rest of your life. That's why they're called the basics
5. Don't knock self-help books - sometimes they can be really helpful. Imagine that!
6. There is no substitute for eating right, getting enough sleep and exercising. Take vitamins, drink lots of water, and get plenty of friendly human interaction.
7. Get rid of negative people in your life. They will suck the life out of you.
8. Don't discount people just because they are not attractive, wear unfashionable clothes, or have superficial traits that don't appeal to you. There may be a gem of a person lurking beneath the bad hair and missing teeth.
